Catching the Sunset at Skadar Lake
Every day, tourists and locals alike flock to its shores to watch the sun set. The lake is so large that it feels like you’re on the ocean. And when the sun sets, the sky turns a beautiful orange hue. If you’re ever in Montenegro, be sure to catch the sunset at Skadar Lake!
There are plenty of spots along Skadar Lake where you can get an excellent view of the sunset. Most people prefer to sit on a bench or take photos from boats that ferry passengers across the waters. However, it’s important to be safe while taking pictures by keeping your belongings with you and away from water—and never putting yourself in danger just for a photo op!

View from Atop Lovcen Mountain
The view from atop Lovcen Mountain is one of the most beautiful in all of Montenegro. The Adriatic Sea sparkles to the south, while to the north and east lie rolling hills and mountains. To the west, you can even see into Albania. It’s an amazing sight, and one that’s well worth the hike up to the top.
You should go early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid getting sunburned. Bring plenty of water, snacks, and sunscreen with you too; this mountain isn’t called Sunny Lovcen for nothing! As soon as I started my descent down the mountain back towards town, I felt my phone buzz with a notification. Oh no, I thought as I pulled it out of my pocket to see who was calling me at that hour.
But when I saw who it was, I sighed with relief and put it back away again. My mom had been worried about me because she couldn’t get in touch with me earlier. We talked for awhile on Skype until she was satisfied that everything was alright before we hung up again.
Visiting Montenegro’s Nature Parks
There are five national parks, each one unique and special in its own way.
Prokletije National Park is the largest and most diverse, with alpine meadows, glacial lakes, and dramatic peaks.
Durmitor National Park is home to Montenegro’s tallest mountain, Bobotov Kuk, as well as 48 other peaks over 2,000 meters.

Lake Skadar National Park is the largest lake in the Balkans and is home to over 270 species of birds. Some of these include flamingos, pelicans, herons, and spoonbills. Ovtcharov Regional Park covers an area that includes three different geological regions: the Karst region in southwestern Montenegro, Podgorica valley and eastern part of Dinaric Alps near Ulcinj.
It contains both natural beauty spots like Mala Rijeka canyon or Budva Riviera coastlines but also man-made attractions such as salt pans at Stari Grad or a coal mine at Tuzi. Each one offers something new for everyone interested in exploring this breathtaking country!
