A stunning trip to Cochem – A must-see destination in Germany
If you’re looking for an unforgettable, picturesque experience in Germany, look no further than Cochem, a small German town on the Moselle River that UNESCO recognized as a World Heritage Site. There are several reasons why Cochem warrants your attention.
The castle of Cochem

The castle is one of the most beautiful places in the city and definitely worth a visit. It’s a great example of medieval architecture and has a lot of history behind it. The views from the top are stunning, and there are plenty of things to do nearby. If you’re interested in art and culture, Cochem is definitely the place for you.
There are plenty of traditional shops and cafes, as well as some great museums. One of my favorites was the Cochem Museum, which was full of art work and interesting exhibits. They had paintings by Frans Hals (a Dutch painter), who I hadn’t heard about before going there but really enjoyed his work. I also liked that they included a lot of information about local folklore with each exhibit.
If you’re into hiking or biking, this is an area where both activities are very popular – be sure to bring your camera! You can see some beautiful castles along the Mosel River, like Burg Eltz and Schloss Birkenfeld. You’ll also want to check out the town of Bernkastel-Kues on your travels.
The medieval town

Cochem is a medieval town located in the Moselle wine region of Germany. The town is situated on a hillside overlooking the Moselle River and is surrounded by vineyards. Cochem has a long history dating back to the 11th century when it was founded by the Counts of Trier. The town was later conquered by the French and then returned to German control after the Napoleonic Wars.
Today, Cochem is a popular tourist destination for its beautiful scenery, medieval architecture, and delicious wine. If you’re looking for a breathtaking place to visit in Germany, be sure to add Cochem to your list! Cochem’s main attraction is St. Peter’s Church which towers over the city from atop the hill and can be seen from all around. Tourists are drawn to this church for its amazing architecture as well as beautiful stained glass windows which were crafted by artist Erwin Krenz in 1928.
Other notable sites include: Saint George’s Basilica, Saint Mary’s Church, and Burg Zollern (a castle which dates back to the 10th century). When exploring these sights or other parts of town be sure not to miss out on experiencing some of Germany’s finest wines at one of many local wineries such as Reissdorf or Stolzlechner Weingut!
Gardens and parks

Cochem is a picturesque town located in the Moselle wine region of Germany. The town is home to many gardens and parks, making it a great place to relax and enjoy the scenery. In addition to the gardens, Cochem also has a number of historical landmarks and buildings that are worth exploring. If you’re looking for a beautiful and relaxing place to visit, be sure to add Cochem to your list!
Amongst the largest parks in Cochem is Schlossgarten Cochem, which is almost 1km2 (or about 0.4mi2) big. This park has several different themed sections featuring everything from waterfalls to rose gardens and canals full of fish and turtles. Each season offers something different at Schlossgarten Cochem; if you’re lucky enough to go during winter or early spring, be sure to check out what looks like ice sculptures by 17th century artist Paul de Lamerie…
only these sculptures are actually made entirely out of rose petals! For an authentic German experience, head over to Heideweg Park and take a stroll through their beer garden. Here you’ll find live music on Friday evenings and an outdoor stage where local artists put on concerts throughout the summer months.
Spa treatments

From the moment you arrive in Cochem, you will feel your stress start to melt away. The town is small and quaint, surrounded by beautiful vineyards. Take some time to explore the charming streets before making your way to one of the many spas for a treatment.
I highly recommend the Jodenbad, which is an outdoor spa with views of the river Moselle. After your spa treatment, relax with a glass of wine from one of the local vineyards. You will definitely want to come back to this magical place!
No matter how stressed or hectic life gets, it’s important to take some time out for yourself and have a relaxing getaway. Getting away from it all can make all the difference when it comes to maintaining your mental health. One of my favourite places to unwind is Cochem in Germany. It has such an amazing atmosphere that no matter what kind of day you are having, you can instantly recharge just being there – especially if you go there during grape harvesting season! So why should you visit Cochem? Firstly, the town is on the gorgeous River Moselle and so many people say that it is among the most scenic rivers in Europe. Secondly, most Germans believe Cochem to be one of their country’s prettiest towns.

If you’re looking for an enchanting German town to visit, this should be on your itinerary. I visited the charming little village of Cochem with my partner. The medieval architecture set amongst lush green hills made it one of the most picturesque places I’ve ever seen.
We left Saarbrücken at around 10am and arrived shortly after. There is a frequent service, so there are often no more than ten minutes between trains. From what I could see, most of them were well-used too! We disembarked at Cochem Bahnhof, which is just beside the river Moselle. The old town lies just a few minutes walk from here.
