Don’t Miss Out on Exploring the Beautiful City of Colmar!
When you think of France, you might think of beautiful countrysides, delicious wines, and gorgeous artworks. And when you think of Colmar, you might think of the many things listed above – but you’d be missing out on an important piece of this charming city’s history if you didn’t visit its pastel-colored half-timbered houses, too! If you’re planning on visiting the country of France in the near future, don’t miss out on exploring this beautiful city! Here are some reasons why Colmar is worth exploring: (with photos and videos)
The Riquewihr Wine District
One of the most beautiful places in France is definitely the Riquewihr wine district. The architecture and art in this area are breathtaking, and there are plenty of landmarks and things to do. If you’re a fan of wine, then you’ll definitely want to check out this place.
Trust me, you won’t be disappointed! If wine isn’t your thing, don’t worry. There’s plenty more to explore here in the city of Colmar, including the ancient church and castle dating back to 11th century. And if that’s not enough for you, then there’s always Parc du Petit Prince too. I was able to enjoy views of the Rhine Valley while exploring different parts of the park with my family, and we were also lucky enough to catch one of the only times when they light up a fountain at night (and it was just as amazing as I thought it would be).
The architecture in Colmar is stunning – so much so that even though I’ve visited many European cities before, I still haven’t seen anything quite like it.
Colmar also has some fantastic shopping opportunities – from small boutiques where you can find clothes hand-made by local designers to larger stores like H&M. So whether you’re looking for souvenirs or clothing, Colmar has something for everyone!
Muhlbach-sur-Munster

If you find yourself in Alsace, be sure to explore the city of Colmar. This charming city is located in northeastern France and is known for its well-preserved old town, its canals, and its timber-framed buildings. You’ll definitely want to take a stroll down the pedestrian-only Rue des Marchands, which is lined with shops and cafes. And be sure to try some of the local specialties like tarte flambée (a thin pizza-like crust topped with crème fraîche, onions, and bacon) and kugelhopf (a Bundt cake-like pastry made with raisins and almonds). With its beautiful setting and delicious food, Colmar is a city you won’t want to miss!
Like most cities in Europe, Colmar has free public Wi-Fi available throughout much of its center and near tourist attractions such as churches and museums. Make sure your device has an unlimited data plan or an international data plan before leaving home so you don’t get surprised by large roaming charges or overage fees.
Most hotels also offer complimentary Wi-Fi, but if yours doesn’t have it then feel free to ask one of their friendly staff members how they recommend getting online while you’re there. If they don’t know any good options themselves, ask them if they can print out Google Maps directions for the best nearby hotspots.
Place Stanislas

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Place Stanislas is one of the most beautiful squares in Europe. It is located in the heart of Colmar and is surrounded by grandiose buildings. The square is named after King Stanislaus Leszczynski of Poland, who was also the Duke of Lorraine.
Every year, Place Stanislas hosts over 500 events, making it one of the most popular squares in France. If you’re ever in Colmar, be sure to check out this beautiful square! You won’t regret it. You will never forget your visit here.
Named after a king, Place Stanislas has an impressive collection of gorgeous buildings.
There are a few restaurants on the Square that you should try if you have time: Le Vieux Manoir- Un bistrot ouvert du lundi au vendredi midi, Le Foch- Restaurant gastronomique et historique avec sa tour, L’Auberge Saint Antoine- Grande maison de la culture francaise aux senteurs traditionnelles Alsacienne et enfin Aux Trois Fourquets- Grande brasserie au charme intimiste qui sert des plats savoureux toute la journée. The main attraction of Place Stanislas is the Palace Museum which holds some truly unique pieces from all around the world.
Unterlinden Museum

The museum is home to a large collection of paintings, sculptures, and other works of art. The museum also has a garden with a fountain and a cafe. Visitors can also take a tour of the museum’s history. The Unterlinden Museum is a must-see for anyone visiting Colmar.
It houses over 700 different pieces of artwork, including some by Pieter Brueghel the Elder, Peter Paul Rubens, Rembrandt van Rijn, Hans Holbein the Younger, and Jan Brueghel the Elder. It also has many paintings by Albrecht Dürer such as Adam and Eve. If you enjoy art, then this museum should be on your list of places to visit while you’re in Colmar. For those who want to learn more about the Unterlinden Museum’s history, there are guided tours available every day at 10am and 3pm.
Tours last around an hour. In addition to its permanent collections, it also hosts temporary exhibitions throughout the year that change every few months or so depending on what they want to show off. Some of these exhibitions have been truly eye-opening and very educational.

One day my friend mentioned that he had visited this small town called Colmar while travelling through Europe and said that it was one of his favorite cities he had ever seen. The next time I travelled to Europe, I made sure to visit this little French gem as well! When we arrived at the train station in Colmar, we were greeted by an amazing view of the gorgeous canal that ran right down the middle of the street.
It was such a peaceful contrast from the hustle and bustle of Paris where we had just come from! As we walked around the city, we found ourselves passing by adorable houses with bright flowers hanging from their windowsills.
