The Qaanaaq Airport is located in the town of Qasigiannguit, in northwestern Greenland. It is the only airport in the area and serves as the gateway to this unique town. The airport is small, with a single runway, but it is well-equipped and able to handle small planes and helicopters. There are several hiking trails near the airport that offer fantastic views of the natural beauty that surrounds you. One such trail offers visitors a chance to explore an old graveyard, which provides clues about life for residents before modern times. Another trail gives hikers a closer look at the glacier that feeds into Kangerlussuaq Fjord.
Visitors also have a chance to see large brown bears during hikes on these paths. Hikers should be careful not to come too close because they can be aggressive when surprised by humans and their territory has been violated.
