Island hopping in Mallorca – exploring the beautiful island one day at a time
The beauty of Mallorca will take your breath away, whether you’re exploring the island as part of an organized tour or taking your own time to discover some of the hidden gems and hidden beaches that are scattered across the island. No matter how you choose to explore this stunning Mediterranean island, here are some great tips on making the most of your time exploring Mallorca one day at a time.
Day 1 – Port de Pollença
Port de Pollença is a charming town located on the north coast of Mallorca. It’s known for its beaches, coastline and scenic views. There are plenty of things to do in Port de Pollença, from enjoying the local cuisine to taking an adventurous hike. The scenic coastline offers plenty of opportunities for exploration as well. Hiking the coastal cliffs provides breathtaking views of the ocean below. On days when the sea is rough, you can explore the town or take a boat ride across to Sa Calobra Island. I had an enjoyable and adventurous day exploring Port de Pollença! There were so many things to do in this town; it was easy to find activities that appealed to me. From visiting historical landmarks, dining at excellent restaurants, or swimming in the clear water – there is something for everyone here. And if you want more action than just laying on the beach all day long, go hiking around the perimeter of Port de Pollença Bay!
While walking along the coastline, I came across a small cave hidden between two rocks. If you walk further down this path, there is a cliff with waves crashing against it – making for some great photo ops! I’m really glad that I got to spend the day exploring Port de Pollença; it was absolutely amazing and now I am excited to spend tomorrow exploring another town in Mallorca!
Day 2 – C’an Picafort
C’an Picafort is a beautiful resort town located on the northeast coast of Mallorca. The town is known for its lovely beaches, crystal clear waters and stunning scenery. There are plenty of things to do in C’an Picafort, from relaxing on the beach to exploring the many shops and restaurants. If you’re looking for a place to stay, there are plenty of hotels and vacation rentals available. There’s also an airport with daily flights to Palma de Mallorca, as well as ferries that come into the port every day. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing weekend getaway or want to spend your summer days soaking up the sun, C’an Picafort has everything you need! One thing I found interesting was how the street names change when you cross the street. For example, Calle Largo means wide street in Spanish but becomes Calle Estrecha when it crosses over to the other side of Carrer Major. These streets have different names depending on which side they are located on which can be confusing if you don’t know what it means beforehand!
I loved walking around town because it reminded me so much of California– from palm trees lining almost every street corner to tiny little coffee shops everywhere you turn! Even though we had just arrived in the morning, we managed to make our way down to Playa Llucmajor where we enjoyed watching the waves roll onto shore while eating some delicious ice cream cones. The water was so clean and inviting and it felt like a whole new world compared to anything I’ve seen before.
Day 3 – Alcúdia
After breakfast, we walked around the town of Alcúdia and did some shopping. Then, we took a bus to Puerto de Alcudia to spend some time at the beach. The water was crystal clear and very refreshing. We spent a couple of hours swimming and sunbathing before heading back to our hotel for lunch. In the afternoon, we went on a hike to Puig de Maria, which offers stunning views of the island. We were so tired after our hike that we decided to have an early dinner and go to bed early.
As soon as I woke up, I could tell it was going to be another beautiful day. We got ready quickly and left for Pollenca via taxi where we had planned to walk along the old city walls until it was time for lunch. However, when we arrived there were huge crowds lining up to enter the walls – it would take way too long to wait in line just to walk 20 minutes along them! Instead, we just ate at a restaurant near the entrance and headed back home with plans of visiting another part of Mallorca later this week. It’s been an incredible few days exploring the beautiful island of Mallorca.

Day 4 – Puerto de Alcúdia
We started our final day with a visit to the Alcudia Old Town, an ancient walled city that was founded by the Romans. The well-preserved ruins are a sight to behold, and it’s amazing to think about how long ago they were built. After spending some time walking around, we headed to Puerto de Alcudia for lunch. This charming port town is known for its fresh seafood, and we were not disappointed. We feasted on lobster paella and shrimp skewers while enjoying the stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea. With our bellies full, we wandered around the town before heading back to our hotel for some much-needed rest. Tomorrow, we will head to Palma, but I already can’t wait to come back! Mallorca is absolutely magical, and there are so many more places I want to explore. Hopefully I’ll have time to do so during my next vacation 🙂
Although Puerto de Alcúdia isn’t really a touristy place, it still felt like something out of a movie. Everywhere you look was picture perfect—there wasn’t even trash on the ground because apparently they don’t allow plastic bags in their markets (I wish other cities would implement that policy)! There were tons of people eating outside and chatting under brightly colored umbrellas as if nothing could go wrong; just watching them made me feel better instantly.
El Toro Waterfalls
It’s known for its clear blue waters, sandy beaches, and picturesque villages. There’s so much to see and do on the island, from hiking and biking to exploring caves and swimming in waterfalls. I recently had the opportunity to spend a week on the island, and I wanted to share my experience with you all!
On our first day we decided to explore El Toro Waterfalls, which was about 10 minutes away from our hotel. We rented bikes for about €8 each (bikes can be rented throughout the country) and rode along scenic coastal roads until we reached our destination. The falls were simply breathtaking, spilling down almost 200 feet into a large pool below. We spent hours walking around the waterfall and exploring nature while admiring how beautiful Mallorca truly is.
Afterwards, we biked back towards the village where we grabbed lunch before heading back to the hotel. The rest of our days were filled with more adventures: we explored ancient tunnels dug out by hand near La Font de Sant Maurici; hiked through the rainforest near Pollença; climbed up to Deià Castle; swam in a secluded cove near Alcudia that only locals know about; took a ferry over to Menorca and visited Mahon Beach as well as Ciutadella Fortress; and more!
