The Lofoten Islands: A beautiful place to explore

Lofoten Islands (Norwegian: ) are an archipelago in the Arctic Ocean, within the Nordland county of Norway. Most of the islands are uninhabited, with only some 50 people living on the largest island, Austvågøya. The biggest town and administrative center is Svolvær; other settlements include Skutvik and Henningsvær. The islands form the Lofoten Mainland National Park which was established in 2017.

The Husøy Lighthouse is one of the most popular tourist attractions on the island. The views from the top are breathtaking, and it’s a great place to take photos. The lighthouse is also a great place to learn about the history of the island, as it has been around for centuries. It is located in Tjongsfjord, Nordland. There is a view of the mountain range Stetind, with its peak 915 meters above sea level. It was established in 1858 and built by British engineer William Stephenson. The lighthouse was closed down in 1965 due to automation technology that made it obsolete, but was reopened as a museum. Visitors can climb up the 228 steps inside or they can just enjoy the views from outside.

The Værlandet Lighthouse is a beautiful sight on the island. The views from the top of the lighthouse are amazing. The Lofoten Islands are a great place to explore and the Værlandet Lighthouse is a must-see.

We drove to the lighthouse and explored it, then continued our journey through town stopping at several different sights along the way. We visited our first museum of the day at Vikingkvinnens Gård, which tells about life for women during the Viking era. Next we made our way to Svinøy Church which dates back as far as 1250 AD. From there we took in all the serenity of one of Norway’s most famous beaches, Henningsvær Beach, before heading to Ågskardet Lookout.
We hiked up 1km and over 600 steps to get here. It was worth every step as this was my favorite lookout point in all of Lofoten Islands. The view is spectacular!

The Storfjord Church Village, located in the municipality of Moskenes, is one of the most beautiful places on the Lofoten Islands. The village is home to a number of old wooden churches, including the Drageid Church, which was built in 1838.
