What’s the most ravishing place on earth? For many, it’s the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France, or the skyline of New York City, USA. While I agree that these locations are spectacular, there’s another place that I think deserves this title much more: Jajce, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It’s an amazing city full of culture and history that everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime!

History & culture
Jajce was first settled in the 12th century by the Bosnian state. The town’s name comes from the word jajce, which means egg in Bosnian. The town is most famous for its 15th-century castle, which was built by the Ottomans. The castle has a beautiful view of the Pliva Lake. The town is also home to the Museum of Yugoslavian History, which is housed in a former prison.
Visitors can see recreations of rooms from different eras, as well as artifacts like Tito’s suit and weapons used during World War II.
One interesting thing about this city is that there are not many cars or street signs here. To get around, people usually walk or use bicycles. If you want to go out at night you will need to hire a taxi or use Uber because there are no buses at night time. People who live in Jajce don’t drive much so it is easy to get around. There are many great restaurants, cafes, bars and places to shop.
For entertainment there is an 18-hole golf course, two swimming pools and lots of hiking trails just outside the city. When visiting Jajce, travelers should also take a trip up to Kaljaja Fort. It offers views of the city and surrounding countryside.
Hiking near Jajce
The mountains provide a great backdrop for the city and there are plenty of trails to explore. You can even hike to the top of Pliva Falls for a great view of the city. Just be sure to wear proper footwear and bring plenty of water. It’s also best to avoid any hikes during the summer months as temperatures can get very high.
Once you’re done hiking you can stop by one of the local cafes for some refreshments or head over to Otočac Castle for an easy tour around this castle that dates back to 1405! If you’re looking for something more challenging then don’t miss out on the Kokom Polje Trail which is perfect for people who love going off-trail and exploring natural landscapes. Keep in mind that this trail does not allow horses so you’ll need to leave your four-legged friends at home. Another popular trail near Jajce is Trnovska Glava which has three ravines on it where hikers can take in the beauty of nature while having lunch.

- Jajce is the perfect base for exploring the nearby town of Travnik. Travnik is known for its mosques and traditional Bosnian houses.
