The Most Ravishing Destinations in Zanzibar
Zanzibar, an island off the coast of Tanzania, contains some of the most ravishing destinations in the world. If you’re looking to enjoy some time in paradise, you will want to visit these top three destinations on Zanzibar that are sure to blow your mind and change your life forever.
Stone Town
As the capital of Zanzibar, Stone Town is full of incredible architecture, beautiful flora and fauna, and stunning natural beauty. A walk through the city will take you past iconic buildings like the House of Wonders and the Old Fort, as well as through lush gardens and down sandy beaches. Be sure to add a visit to Stone Town to your Zanzibar itinerary!
Once inside, explore Blue Mosque and Government House Museum for architecture that blends elements from Europe and India with an Islamic aesthetic. You’ll also find some great shopping for items made from coral and unique souvenirs before relaxing over sunset drinks at Little Eden Bar overlooking Baghani Village. End by having dinner on Mtoni Palace grounds overlooking the sea so you can enjoy views of historic Fort Jesus before heading back into town.
Jambiani Beach
With its gentle waves, soft sand, and array of flora and fauna, Jambiani Beach is one of the most ravishing destinations in Zanzibar. The natural beauty of the beach is breathtaking, and it’s a perfect place to relax and unwind. For those looking for some activity, there are plenty of opportunities for snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, fishing, and birdwatching.
Guests will find themselves immersed in nature during their stay here – from the waters all around them to the lush plants on land. People visiting this destination should be sure not only to explore the beaches but also venture inland into local villages where they can enjoy traditional dancing or experience firsthand how locals live by spending time at their homes or working alongside them on farm plots.
Prison Island
Just a short boat ride from Stone Town, Prison Island is home to a small hotel, a beach, and the ruins of an old prison. The island is perfect for a day trip, and the beach is one of the best places to relax in Zanzibar. It’s easy to get there via taxi or by taking a dala-dala (which is basically like public transportation) and telling them you want to go to prison island. For those who want to stay longer than a day, they can book a room at the Prisons Hotel on the website linked below.
While it might seem odd to spend your vacation sleeping where prisoners once were kept, it has some good reviews and it would be an amazing experience. Plus, it’s not that far away from Stone Town so visitors could do both during their time here. The other notable place I want to mention is Pongwe Beach which we also got a chance to visit. In my opinion, this was the prettiest beach in all of Zanzibar!
Banana Island
Just a short boat ride from the hustle and bustle of Stone Town, Banana Island is the perfect place to relax and recharge. With its powdery white sand beaches, turquoise waters, and lush jungle surroundings, Banana Island feels like a world away from everything.
And there’s plenty to do on the island too, from snorkeling and diving to exploring the many caves and hiking to the top of the lookout point for breathtaking views. But don’t worry if you can’t tear yourself away from the beach – it’s all right here! If you’re looking for a secluded paradise with plenty of activities, Banana Island should be your first stop in Zanzibar. Not far from Stone Town but worlds away, this tiny island has beautiful sandy beaches and water that reflects an almost surreal shade of blue.
On the island you’ll find restaurants serving tasty seafood as well as various shops selling arts and crafts. And if that wasn’t enough for you then hop on a day trip to explore some of the nearby islands by boat or take advantage of scuba diving or snorkeling opportunities just off shore.
Jozani Forest Reserve
The Jozani Forest Reserve is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Zanzibar. The reserve is home to a variety of endemic species of animals, including the red colobus monkey and the Zanzibar leopard. Visitors can take guided tours through the forest, or go on safari to see the wildlife up close.
For bird watchers, there are more than 370 bird species living in the forest. Keep an eye out for the pygmy falcon! There are also many different plants that can be found throughout the reserve. These include sandalwood trees, baobab trees, and African tulip trees. As with all forests, visitors should come prepared with sunscreen and insect repellent. Be sure to wear light clothing too as it can get hot during the day due to lack of shade. Luckily, night time brings some relief with cooler temperatures. Don’t forget your camera!
Matemwe Beach
With its beautiful coral reef, Matemwe Beach is one of the best places in Zanzibar for snorkeling and diving. Swimming, sunbathing, and relaxing at the beach are also great activities. For those looking to avoid crowds, this beach offers a peaceful and secluded experience with white sand to match.
A few kilometers away from the main town of Stone Town, Matemwe Beach offers a tranquil getaway with warm waters perfect for families or couples looking to relax in peace.
Whether you are a fan of exotic foods, animals, birdwatching, or simply want some solitude and relaxation, Matemwe Beach has something for everyone! Take advantage of this opportunity by booking your next vacation here today!
Some suggestions on where to stay include; Manta Lodge Hotel is known for its affordable rates, comfortable rooms, and prime location just across from the beach. It’s also one of only two hotels with direct access to beach’s beautiful waters.
Bwejuu Beach
With its white sand, palm trees, and clear blue water, Bwejuu Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island of Zanzibar. It’s also one of the busiest, so if you’re looking for a quiet spot to relax, you might want to try another beach. But if you’re looking for a lively atmosphere with plenty of people to meet, Bwejuu is the place for you. One of the best parts about this beach is that it doesn’t get very crowded, even when other beaches are full!
The locals love to visit as well, which means you’ll always find someone who can speak Swahili or Arabic (even though they don’t know each other). The water here is pretty shallow, but not enough that you won’t be able to swim.
In addition to swimming, snorkeling here is excellent because there are some hidden treasures at the bottom of the sea floor such as schools of fish and exotic coral reefs.
Kizimkazi Village
The first stop on our list of ravishing destinations is the fishing village of Kizimkazi. Located on the southern coast of the island, this picturesque village is home to some of the best seafood in Zanzibar. From fresh caught fish to succulent crabs, there’s something for everyone at Kizimkazi. And don’t forget to try the famous octopus curry! If you’re looking for a more rustic experience, then head over to Fumba Village, located just west of Stone Town.
You’ll find that these locals are quite friendly and welcoming and will even invite you into their homes if you walk by one with open doors. Don’t be surprised if they offer you tea or coffee before sending you off down the dirt road. Once back in Stone Town, don’t miss stopping by Mama Africa Cooking School where traditional African cuisine will leave your taste buds tingling for more. It’s no wonder why it’s often referred to as the Paris of Africa.
