ROYS PEAK
The first stop on our tour is Roys Peak. This is one of the most popular trails in New Zealand and for good reason. The views from the top are incredible and you can see for miles. Be sure to bring your camera because you’re going to want to take lots of pictures! You’ll be surrounded by snow-capped mountains and crystal clear lakes, which will make for some spectacular photographs.
Along the way, there’s a lot of different types of vegetation to enjoy, including silver beech trees with their leaves turning red in autumn as well as tussock plants that give off a green hue all year round. We also passed through sections of rock gardens that were filled with yellow gorse flowers. At the peak, we got to go inside an old stone building called The Stone House. It was built during World War II as an observatory and lookout post so soldiers could keep watch over the region.
Nowadays it serves as a great place to check out the amazing view and snap some photos. Afterwards, we made our way back down the mountain, driving past yet more stunning scenery along the way.
