Kastraki (Falling Rock)

Kastraki is one of the most popular areas in Meteora. It’s known for its architecture and mountaneous views. The beautiful rocks and natural beauty make it a perfect destination for the adventure-seeker. Plus, there are plenty of hotels and restaurants to choose from when you’re ready to relax after a long day of exploring.
My favorite was Taverna Vaitouria! It had such an authentic Greek feel with live music, delicious food, and friendly service. I recommend getting the taverna platter with soup or salad for a filling meal that will give you enough energy to explore more! You can also take a tour at the waterfall area, which has been designated as part of Greece’s Natura 2000 Network. There are also many hiking trails available so you can find your own adventure while admiring the breathtaking scenery. I would have loved to stay longer but sadly my time here is short, so I must be on my way soon!
Varlaam Monastery

The Varlaam Monastery is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Meteora. The monastery was built in the 14th century and is one of the six monasteries that remain in Meteora. The monastery is accessible by a set of stairs or by a lift, and once you reach the top, you’re rewarded with stunning views of the surrounding area.
If you’re looking for an adventure, look no further than the Varlaam Monastery! Climb to the top and take in some of the most beautiful scenery imaginable. You can also go on hikes to explore some of Meteora’s other hidden gems as well. In particular, I recommend hiking up to Agios Nikolaos Anapafsa. On your way up, there are plenty of waterfalls to enjoy. Once you make it up to the top of Agios Nikolaos Anapafsa, be sure not to miss out on the statue of Virgin Mary overlooking Meteora. It’s a sight unlike any other!
Agia Triada Skete
Tucked away in the stunning cliffs of the Meteora, Agia Triada Skete is an Orthodox Christian monastery that will take your breath away. This place is not only gorgeous, but it’s also steeped in history dating back to the 14th century. If you’re looking for an adventure and want to explore one of the most beautiful places on earth, then Agia Triada Skete should be at the top of your list!
The monks at this Monastery offer a guided tour through their 16 chapels and two churches, as well as a traditional meal with them (optional). Visitors are encouraged to dress modestly before exploring the Monastery so as not to offend any of the members who may be present. The breathtaking views from up high are incomparable – no wonder people have been visiting for centuries!
One of the most popular sites in Greece, the Monastery will undoubtedly take your breath away!
Ouranoupoli (Cloud Town)
Ouranoupoli is a small town in northern Greece that is home to some of the most breathtaking landscapes in all of Europe. The Meteora, a group of monasteries perched atop towering rock formations, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Greece. But Ouranoupoli is more than just a pretty face; it’s also a great place to hike, climb, and explore.
If you’re looking for an adventure, this is the place for you! Begin with a gentle stroll through the village on your way to Moni Megalou Meteorou, where monks continue their work today much as they have done for centuries. Be sure to grab a bite at Taverna Tzitzika before heading off on the Meteora Mountain Trail where you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views of the surrounding hillsides dotted with trees and farmlands stretching out as far as the eye can see.
Afterward, head back down into the valley for a visit to Ancient Ouranoupolis and stop by Pateles Winery before taking a tour of Stavronikita Monastery.
Vatopedi Skete

The Vatopedi Skete is one of the most popular destinations in Meteora. This monastery is perched atop a large rock and offers stunning views of the surrounding area. The monastery also has a rich history, dating back to the 11th century.
If you’re looking for an adventure, this is definitely the place to go! Make sure to bring lots of water and snacks with you because it’s easy to get dehydrated while hiking up the trail. There are signs along the way warning hikers not to attempt the climb if they have pre-existing conditions such as heart disease or respiratory problems. Keep in mind that while there are ropes on some parts of the path, there are still many places where climbing isn’t an option so be prepared before you head out on your hike!
Don’t forget to take your camera because the view from the top is absolutely breathtaking. In addition, make sure to wear sunscreen and dress appropriately.
Grigoriou Monastery

Nestled atop a column of rock in Thessaly, Greece, is the Grigoriou Monastery. This secluded spot was once home to monks who wished to live a life of solitude and prayer. Today, it’s a popular destination for adventure-seekers and those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. The views from the monastery are absolutely breathtaking, making it easy to see why it’s such a popular spot. It’s not unusual to find thrill-seeking travelers leaping off one of the columns into an impressive diving pool below.
