Things You Can Find Underwater
Over a thousand distinct coral species call Australia’s Great Barrier Reef home. While these tiny ecosystems may appear monotonous to some, in reality there is a great deal of diversity between different corals. Although most coral seems similar to an untrained eye, once you start paying attention to color, texture and patterns you’ll find that each piece is quite unique. Here are just a few things you can discover underwater at Australia’s greatest natural wonderland.
Australia’s Great Barrier Reef is a living structure. It supports over 1,500 species of fish, 350 types of hard and soft corals as well as more than 10,000 molluscs such as clams and snails. It also provides food for one third of the global population of marine turtles.
Although it may seem like all the reef has to offer is colorful fish it really does have a diverse range of plants and animals including one-third the total number animal species on earth!
It might not be possible for humans to see every single plant or animal but with hundreds of hours spent scuba diving you will come across many beautiful discoveries such as giant clams with shells that measure up to 2 meters wide! The beauty of this reef truly needs to be seen in person to be appreciated.
How To Go On Your Own Scuba Diving Adventure
Before you head out to sea, it’s important to make sure you’re properly prepared and know what to expect when diving with sharks. The following guide will walk you through everything from packing your gear to swimming with sharks. First, lets go over some tips for preparation!
If you are going on a Scuba diving adventure, it is important that you prepare ahead of time so that nothing goes wrong. It is also good to have some idea about what to expect during the trip! Here are some useful tips for preparing before the dive:
-Make sure that you are in good physical condition. Scuba diving requires a lot of energy and endurance, so be sure not to push yourself too hard beforehand. Take care of any medical conditions beforehand as well! If anything changes in the days leading up to the dive- cancel the reservation or notify your doctor immediately. -Research any potential hazards at the location of your dive such as poisonous animals, dangerous currents, hazardous weather, altitude sickness or decompression sickness.
-Before setting off on your scuba diving adventure, make sure you have all of the necessary equipment! Be mindful that even something like sunscreen can expire after six months. You may want to find someone who can help you pack if this will be difficult for you.
-Pack clothing appropriate for both warm and cold water dives. Avoid cotton clothing which takes a long time to dry and absorbs water easily while in salt water environments.

experience in the Great Barrier Reef
One of my favorite parts about being in college is traveling and experiencing new cultures. My most recent trip took me to Cairns, Australia, home to one of nature’s most spectacular sights—the Great Barrier Reef.
The crystal clear waters and stunning reef creatures blew me away. The beauty I witnessed was astonishing, but unfortunately many places like it are threatened by global warming and other factors that are ruining our planet. Although I don’t think everyone needs to quit their job immediately and start a campaign for conservation efforts, spreading awareness is important because what we do affects those around us; we might not be aware how our habits affect them but they have just as much an impact on us as well.
When we go out of our way to buy locally grown produce or recycled products, or even when we donate some clothes to the needy instead of throwing them away, the change that happens in the world is huge. Even if you don’t consider yourself an activist type person, there are small changes you can make in your daily life that can really make a difference-like using public transportation instead of driving. It’s difficult sometimes because there’s so much pressure on people nowadays to make money and spend time working at their careers.
But I believe if you take time out for yourself once in awhile, put your phone down and take care of yourself (which includes making healthy choices), then it will reflect positively into the world around you.
