Mesmerizing places in Ljubljana that will take your breath away

The capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana, has been the country’s most visited city for years and the main reason behind this is its mesmerizing beauty. Founded more than 2,000 years ago by the Romans, the city was named Emona after one of their gods and then changed to Laibach in the Middle Ages. From there it became known as Lubiana and finally Ljubljana in 1994, which means the lovely in Slovene.

The Triple Bridge

The Triple Bridge is one of the most iconic and popular spots in Ljubljana. The bridge, which was built in the early 1900s, spans the Ljubljanica River and connects three different parts of the city. The Triple Bridge is a beautiful example of art and architecture, and it’s also a great spot for people watching.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even jump off the bridge into the river below (but we don’t recommend it!). The unique architecture and art on the bridges are just some of the reasons why this landmark has become so iconic over time. It’s a tradition to cross all three bridges at least once when visiting Ljubljana, so try to do this if you have time!

Dragon Bridge

The Dragon Bridge is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Ljubljana. It’s a beautiful, historic bridge that’s also said to be lucky. If you’re feeling adventurous, walk across it for some of the best views in the city. You can also explore the culture and history of the bridge by visiting the nearby Dragon Bridge Museum.
And, of course, don’t forget to take plenty of pictures! One-third of Slovenia’s territory is protected forestland, so even if you want to stay in the city, there are endless opportunities for outdoor adventures. Lake Bled: Ljubljana sits on the edge of Lake Bled, an unbelievably serene site with charming buildings overlooking a tranquil lake and emerald-green water.
With opportunities for swimming, fishing or just enjoying the view from shore (perfect for those who aren’t keen on water activities), this attraction offers something for everyone.

The Muzejski Trg

If you’re looking for a place to start your exploration of Ljubljana, look no further than Muzejski trg. This central square is home to some of the city’s most important landmarks, including the National Museum of Slovenia, the Slovenian Philharmonic, and the City Hall.
But it’s not just the buildings that make this square special – it’s also the people. On any given day, you’ll find locals and tourists alike enjoying the sunny weather and relaxed atmosphere. For an alternative view of the city, head up to the top floor terrace at Magussova Domaca Kuca (also known as House No. 3). Located on Trnovo Sreet off from Ulica Prilaz Street, this 18th-century building is home to an artsy cafe with panoramic views of Old Town Ljubljana.
Finally, be sure to visit Church of St Francis on Gradec Hill.

The Tivoli Park

Tivoli Park is one of the most mesmerizing places in Ljubljana. The park is huge, and there are so many different things to see and do. You can explore the gardens, go for a walk or bike ride, or even just sit and people watch. There’s something for everyone at Tivoli Park, and it’s definitely worth a visit when you’re in town.
You should also check out Prešeren Square – it has beautiful views and tons of cafes!
One thing you don’t want to miss is the Ljubljanica River. It’s stunning with all its bridges and boats going by. It might not be very long, but this river has seen its fair share of history – especially during WWII when the bridge was bombed by Hitler’s troops.
The nearby National Museum houses exhibitions that document the stories of everyday life before, during, and after the war.

Kanal ob Stegni

The first place on our list is Kanal ob Stegni. This is a beautiful canal that runs through the city and is lined with trees and flowers. It’s a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, and it’s easy to see why. The canal is calm and serene, and the views are simply stunning.
If you’re looking for a place to relax and take in the sights of Ljubljana, Kanal ob Stegni is the perfect spot. You can rent kayaks or just enjoy the scenery from the banks of the canal. There are also plenty of benches where you can sit down and have a snack while enjoying the view.
We recommend bringing along some bread so you can feed the ducks as well! The Plečnik Embankment: The Plečnik Embankment is one of the most beautiful parts of Ljubljana, especially during sunset.
Along this stretch of water are gorgeous green trees, stunning homes with white balconies, and all sorts of restaurants to choose from.

Galerija Škuc Gallery

Established in the early 1980s, Galerija Škuc was one of the first independent art galleries in Slovenia. The gallery has a long tradition of championing young and emerging artists, and has played an important role in the development of the Slovenian art scene. Today, the gallery continues to be a leading force in promoting contemporary art, with a program that includes exhibitions, lectures, and workshops. It is also home to three artist-run spaces: Skuc Gallery Project Space, LUBLU Gallery, and LOOP Gallery. Galerija Škuc encourages visitors to explore its collection through carefully curated group shows and solo presentations. Themes explored include identity, memory, territory, and humanity.

Robba Fountain

It is located in front of the town hall and features three allegorical figures representing the three major rivers in Carniola: the Sava, the Krka, and the Ljubljanica.

The fountain was designed by Francesco Robba and completed in 1751. For this reason, it is also called the Robba Fountain. You can visit it on a pleasant day for a refreshing walk or during summertime to see it from a different perspective – from below! Just make sure you leave enough time because there are many other things worth seeing here.
From City Hall Tower you’ll get an amazing view over the whole city. There’s also a little exhibition dedicated to famous Slovenian writers and playwrights at Slovenian National Theater Opera and Ballet building. Make sure you stop by House of Flowers, home to one of the most beautiful flower shops in Slovenia and so much more. And don’t forget to check out Museum of Modern Art (MSUM), which has rotating exhibitions that are always worth checking out.

Saint Anthony’s Church, Organski Square

Saint Anthony’s Church is one of the most beautiful and mesmerizing places in Ljubljana. The church was built in the 15th century and is a perfect example of Gothic architecture. The interior of the church is decorated with stunning frescoes and paintings. The church also has a magnificent pipe organ which is said to be one of the best in Europe.

Saint Anthony’s Church is definitely a place that will take your breath away. It stands as a monument to religious tolerance as it is the first Slovenian Roman Catholic church ever erected. It also served as an asylum for Muslims during the Ottoman Empire, giving credence to its nickname ‘the little mosque on Šiška’. Visitors can enjoy the awe-inspiring view from atop the bell tower where they’ll get views of Streliško Polje and the city center below.
