For those planning their next tropical getaway, there’s no need to look any further than St. Lucia, a small island country located in the eastern Caribbean Sea and directly south of Martinique. Whether you want to explore on your own or take an organized excursion from one of the many tour companies operating on the island, St. Lucia has countless adventures awaiting you that will keep you busy for days (and nights). Make sure to check out these great ways to experience St. Lucia before your visit!
Pack for adventure
When exploring a new place, it’s always important to be prepared for anything. Make sure to pack plenty of sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses for a sunny day spent on the beach. Hiking shoes are a must if you want to explore the island’s scenic trails, and don’t forget your camera to capture all the enjoyable moments.
There are plenty of things to do on the island, so you’re sure to have a great time no matter what you end up doing. Snorkeling is one of the best things to do in St. Lucia because there are plenty of beautiful fish that you can see when scuba diving or snorkeling.
Explore the waterfalls
There are many waterfalls on the island of St. Lucia, each one more beautiful than the last. A popular activity is to take a hike to one of the falls and take a dip in the refreshing water. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even climb up the rocks to get a closer look at the cascading water.
Just be sure to wear proper footwear and be careful! Take a horseback ride through the rainforest: If you want to see another side of St. Lucia, consider taking a horseback ride through the rainforest with one of our experienced guides. The rainforest trails are lined with ferns and towering trees that provide some shelter from the blazing sun.
Have fun at Castries Market
The Castries Market is a great place to find fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as other local goods. The market is also scenic, with its brightly colored stalls and Caribbean atmosphere. You can bargain with vendors for the best prices, and it’s a generally enjoyable experience.
Just be sure to haggle! Don’t forget to see all of Rodney Bay: There are plenty of activities that you can do in Rodney Bay, so keep your eyes peeled for them. There are an assortment of water sports that you can partake in like parasailing or kayaking. There are also many restaurants on the beach, as well as hotels and souvenir shops if you’re looking to buy some gifts. If you want to get out of the heat, head into town and explore the Creole Heritage Center.
Kayak through the mangroves
The first activity on our list is kayaking through the mangroves! This is a great way to see some of St. Lucia’s amazing wildlife up close. You might even get lucky and spot a turtle or two! Be sure to wear sunscreen and insect repellent, and bring plenty of water to stay hydrated.
If you don’t have any experience with kayaking, it can be a bit challenging, but don’t worry! There are plenty of guides that will teach you how to do it in no time. Kayaks can be rented from most tour operators in Rodney Bay for around US$20 per day. When you’re done exploring the mangroves, head over to Mount Gimie National Park where you’ll find trails leading to beautiful scenic views. It’ll take about an hour to hike there and back if you’re doing the full loop trail.
Take a tour of Diamond Falls
A tour of Diamond Falls is a must-do while in St. Lucia. The sparkling waterfalls and lush greenery are an amazing sight. Plus, you can cool off with a swim in the pool at the bottom of the falls. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, as there is a lot of walking involved. Once we reached the top, it was time for some fun!
With only one local guide leading us through the jungle, we had to stay close together so that he could point out all of the different species of plants. We learned about some medicinal properties that these plants have and which ones were used by locals for cooking purposes. After our walk through the jungle, we came across more beautiful views.
Visit the Pitons National Park
The Pitons National Park is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the island of St. Lucia. The park is home to two volcanic peaks, Gros Piton and Petit Piton, which are surrounded by lush rainforest.
Visitors can hike to the top of either peak, or take a boat tour around the base of the cliffs. There are also a number of beaches and waterfalls within the park that are perfect for swimming and relaxing. If you are looking for more adventure in your trip, then head out to the Sulphur Springs Eco-Tourist Complex. Located right outside of Soufriere town, this complex offers a variety of outdoor activities including hiking and rappelling down a waterfall!
Swim with dolphins at Carpe Diem beach
There’s nothing like swimming with dolphins in the wild to make you feel alive. And at Carpe Diem beach in St. Lucia, you can do just that. The water is crystal clear and the dolphins are friendly, making for an unforgettable experience.
So whether you’re a nature lover or just looking for a unique way to spend a day, be sure to add Carpe Diem beach to your list of must-sees in St. Lucia. The next time you need a break from reality, think about booking a trip to St. Lucia! From diving in the deep blue sea to hiking through lush rainforest, this island has something for everyone.
Relax at Grand Cul de Sac beach
There are also plenty of beach umbrellas and chairs for lounging in the sun.
If you get hungry, there are several restaurants nearby that serve fresh seafood and tropical drinks. You can take a catamaran or speedboat from Soufriere Bay Marina to reach the beach; just be sure to pack a lot of sunscreen!
The best time to visit Grand Cul de Sac Beach is during high tide when the reef becomes accessible to explore. There are many fun activities to enjoy at the beach including kayaking and snorkeling, but don’t forget your swimsuit and towel! I recommend bringing some snacks with you too because there aren’t any food vendors on this particular beach. Bring along some water and make sure to reapply sunscreen every two hours.
Shop in Gros Islet market
Gros Islet market is a great place to find souvenirs and gifts for friends and family back home. The market is full of vibrant colors, friendly faces, and delicious smells. Be sure to haggle with the vendors for the best prices on goods like hand-painted pottery, locally made rum, and spices.
If you’re looking for a truly unique experience, take a walk through the market at night when it’s lit up by twinkling lights. You’ll also want to stop in one of the many restaurants and try some authentic Caribbean cuisine. Keep your eyes peeled for live bands playing all over town. At night, Gros Islet really comes alive!
Nightlife at Bamboo bar
The Bamboo Bar is a local favorite on the island of St. Lucia. This open-air bar is located right on the beach, making it the perfect place to enjoy a tropical cocktail while watching the sunset. The Bamboo Bar also has live music most nights, so you can dance the night away under the stars.
If you’re looking for a fun and festive atmosphere, be sure to check out the Bamboo Bar during your next visit to St. Lucia. For those who want something more intimate, try Opal Wine Bar which is tucked in one of the capital’s old colonial houses. It features over 300 different wines from around the world, as well as regional cocktails with an emphasis on rum made by local distilleries.
