Viru street & Freedom Square
Viru street is one of the main streets in Tallinn’s Old Town and is lined with boutiques, cafes, and restaurants. At the end of Viru street is Freedom Square, a large open space with a statue of Estonia’s national poet, Johan Ludvig Runeberg. The square is also home to the Viru Hotel, which has a sky bar with panoramic views of the city.
For those who enjoy the theater arts, check out the Estonian National Opera & Ballet Theater. Stop by Raekoja plats (Town Hall Square) for a view of St. Olaf’s Church, or take some time to admire the old architecture on Rotermanni Street or other beautiful parts of this enchanting town. It doesn’t matter where you go; everywhere you turn there are things to see and do! Tallinn is full of ravishing destinations waiting to be discovered.
St. Nicholas’ Church & Alexander Nevsky Cathedral
If you’re looking to explore some of Tallinn’s incredible history, then a visit to St. Nicholas’ Church and Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is a must. These stunning buildings date back centuries and are a fascinating glimpse into the past. Make sure to take your time walking around and taking in all the intricate details of the architecture. You’ll be truly mesmerized by the beauty of these two landmarks. Afterward, head over to Ülemiste Shopping Centre for a day of shopping or an afternoon sipping coffee at one of the many cafes. You can also take a stroll along Kadriorg Park before grabbing dinner at one of Tallinn’s many restaurants on your way home. And don’t forget about the Old Town – it’s not just for tourists!
Ülemiste Shopping Centre: Ever since its opening in 2005, this has been one of Tallinn’s busiest places with more than 100 shops and 30 different eateries.
Kadriorg Palace & Park
If you’re looking to get lost in the charm of a European city, look no further than Tallinn, Estonia. The Kadriorg Palace & Park is one of the city’s most ravishing destinations. Built in the early 18th century for Russian czar Peter the Great, the palace now houses a branch of the Estonian Art Museum. The surrounding park is perfect for a leisurely stroll or picnic lunch. And don’t forget to enjoy a treat from one of the local cafes before heading back into town. You’ll be happy that you did!
Another major attraction is Niguliste Museum, which holds religious artifacts and symbols from multiple faiths. It’s considered one of Europe’s best examples of Rococo architecture. Step inside St John’s Church—an ornate wooden structure that’s unlike any other church you’ve ever seen. Make sure to see the beautiful stained glass windows during daylight hours as well as at night when they’re lit up.
At night, it’s time to head out on the town!
The Estonian Open Air Museum
A visit to the Estonian Open Air Museum is a must when in Tallinn. This incredible museum gives visitors a glimpse into what life was like in Estonia during the 18th and 19th centuries. With over 85 buildings from all across Estonia, the museum offers something for everyone. Be sure to wander through the picturesque streets, take a ride on a horse-drawn carriage, and try your hand at traditional Estonian crafts. When you need some space to recharge, enjoy some time in Kadriorg Park—a great spot for an afternoon picnic!
A short break from exploring? Visit the charming seaside town of Pärnu where you can stroll along its colourful beachfront promenade and explore the surrounding quaint shops. The old town has been preserved intact with cobbled lanes, historic churches and stylish cafés. Or if it’s peace and quiet you’re after, hop on a ferry to Saaremaa Island—one of Europe’s last remaining unspoiled archipelagos.
Jägala Waterfall
One of the most charming places to explore in Tallinn is Jägala Waterfall. This natural wonder is formed by the Jägala River and is a popular spot for swimming, picnicking, and enjoying the scenic views. The best time to visit is during the summer months when the weather is warm and the waterfall is at its fullest. Be sure to bring along some food and water because it can be difficult to find food or drink around the area.
Started by an ancient oak tree that reaches up into the sky, Toome Hill (Toomemägi) offers visitors a commanding view of the capital city. Located near Lahemaa National Park, this vantage point is perfect for looking out over the Baltic Sea. From here you can see different areas like Rotermanni Quarter and Old Town on one side and Pirita Bay on the other. Visitors who want to hike up Toome Hill should come prepared with sturdy shoes as there are steep trails that lead up to this destination.
Soomaa National Park
Located just a short drive from Tallinn, Soomaa National Park is a must-see for any nature lover. Visitors can explore the park by foot, bicycle, or boat. With so much to see and do, Soomaa National Park is sure to please everyone in the family. If you’re looking for an adventure that will have you feeling like you’ve discovered something new, then look no further than this pristine location.
Whether you’re young or old, there’s something here for every traveler. Guests who love hiking can enjoy exploring the natural wonders on foot, while those who prefer a more leisurely pace might prefer taking one of the many guided tours offered. Whichever activity you choose, make sure to bring plenty of water, food, and sunscreen. It’s also important to remember that pets are not allowed at Soomaa National Park. There are designated pet areas outside of the park grounds. For travelers with allergies, it’s best to wear long sleeves and pants because some plants release pollen into the air during springtime.
