Heritage sites that are not just buildings but instead a part of our heritage

There’s something about heritage sites that make them so much more than just buildings. They’re a part of our history, a part of who we are. And that’s why visiting them is such a special experience. It’s a chance to see the centuries go by in one day, and to be transported back in time to another era.
It was this feeling I had when I visited the beautiful village of Santa Maddalena in Italy last week. While it might not have been my first visit to Italy, it was certainly one of the most memorable! From eating gelato with the locals (yes, they really do eat gelato all year round!) to witnessing locals playing bocce ball on their lunch break, there was so much to explore.
But what really impressed me were the incredible works of art found in nearly every corner – from sculptures made out of olive wood to paintings done on old wine barrels – this place seemed like nothing less than a living museum. If you ever find yourself travelling through Tuscany, you absolutely cannot miss out on Santa Maddalena!
Wildlife

When it comes to wildlife, there’s plenty to see in Santa Maddalena. From the majestic eagles that soar overhead to the playful dolphins that swim in the bay, there’s something for everyone. And, of course, don’t forget about the adorable puppies that can be found all over town!
In total, the village has more than 700 dogs and one hundred cats. It is not uncommon to hear a dog barking or a cat meowing as you walk through the streets! Be sure to look up when walking past their homes and check out their cute pet sitting on the window sill before they come running out after you with excitement. If you’re feeling adventurous, ask around if anyone needs help watering their plants because those are everywhere too!
Or, find some ice cream and take a seat at one of the outdoor cafes by the water and watch people go by. You’ll never run out of things to do here! In addition to sightseeing and exploring, there are many festivals throughout the year like the annual Crufts festival celebrating all things related to pets. No matter what your interests are, this Italian village will have something for you!
Food, wine and artisan products

If you’re looking for a foodie destination that’s off the beaten path, look no further than Santa Maddalena. This quaint Italian village is home to some of the best wine and artisan products in the country.
From cheese and cured meats to fresh pasta and olive oil, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. The gelato here is out of this world. I had some pistachio flavor that was so good I would have eaten it all myself if it wasn’t for my travel companions. If you want to try it for yourself, head on over to Il Gelatiere in town and get your fill of authentic Italian ice cream. It won’t disappoint!
It’s always nice to learn about the history of a place before visiting and Santa Maddalena has an interesting one. Long ago, the Etruscans built their tombs along the hillsides overlooking La Valletta di Castellana, which includes some of Italy’s most important archaeological sites. Today, visitors can explore these ancient ruins with a guided tour by either bike or foot.
Hiking and canyoning trails

There are plenty of outdoor activities to keep you busy in Santa Maddalena. Hiking and canyoning are two of the most popular activities. The trails wind through the stunning scenery of the Dolomites. You’ll get to see plenty of wildlife, including some rare species of birds. And, of course, the views from the top of the trails are breathtaking.
They’re also very popular among hikers for their fantastic panoramic vistas. Another interesting activity is a traditional Austrian lunch that includes lots of hearty food, such as a soup made with potatoes and beans served with local meat (usually beef) or chicken liverwurst. Visitors who want something sweet should try a cake called schüttelbrot. It’s made with cinnamon-sugar that’s shaken on before baking so it coats the cake evenly when baked.
Although it sounds like a simple dessert, there’s actually quite a bit of work involved. Bakers have to make sure they shake enough sugar on while turning the dough over constantly until they feel confident that it has been coated enough.
Relaxing in the sun

There’s something about the sun that just makes you feel relaxed. Maybe it’s the warm rays on your skin or the way it makes everything look so bright and cheerful. Whatever the reason, spending some time in the sun is a great way to relax and recharge. If you’re looking for a place to unwind, head over to the beautiful village of Santa Maddalena.
