Going Green is Beautiful
When you think of natural beauty, what comes to mind? For me, it’s the fresh smell of rain on leaves, the soft rustle of leaves in a gentle breeze, and the bright colors of flowers in bloom. But there’s another kind of natural beauty that’s often overlooked: forests.
I recently had the opportunity to explore one such forest, Hallerbos in Belgium. Even though it was early spring, the forest was already alive with color and life. The trees were starting to leaf out, small green shoots were poking through the ground, daffodils danced alongside the pathway, and bumblebees buzzed happily from flower to flower. There was a sense of peace that only nature can provide – not just because it’s quiet (though it is), but because you’re surrounded by living things all around you.
You can feel their life as they stretch up towards the sun, reaching for new growth. You feel yourself start to grow too, reaching out for something new or maybe just reminding yourself of how beautiful this world really is.

The colorful leaves against the bright blue sky are something I’ll never forget. And with all that nature around me, I couldn’t help but feel so small and insignificant – like my problems didn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. For those moments when life gets too much to handle, I think we could all use a dose of nature like that…
I’m glad I went there during Fall because seeing the crisp reds and oranges mixed with vibrant greens would have been a sight to behold.
The Secret Healing Power of Nature
Maybe it’s the fresh air, or the sounds of the birds chirping. But there’s also a scientific explanation for why being in nature can make us feel so good. According to studies, interacting with nature can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. Plus, it can also help improve our cognitive function and boost our immune system.
So next time you’re feeling down, take a walk in the park or go for a hike in the woods. You might find yourself feeling better! When I visited Hallerbos Forest in Belgium, I had a very hard time dragging myself away from the breathtaking forest to explore more of Ghent. The Hallerbos is filled with old oak trees which creates an enchanting atmosphere under their canopy – perfect for wandering around and getting lost on an adventure.
At the edge of the forest are many paths winding through fields, some leading to neighboring villages like Vlekkem. While exploring these paths was tempting, as soon as I heard singing coming from inside the Hallerbos, I knew I needed to return and see what all the fuss was about.
