A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to tour the beautiful city of San Sebastián in the Basque region of Spain. I had wanted to visit this place ever since I saw the Guggenheim museum there; it has always been one of my favorite art museums! The city has a lot to offer on its own though, with cute cobblestone streets and amazing food! If you’re thinking about visiting this great city, keep reading to learn more about the wonderful things you can do there!
The best things to do in San Sebastián

San Sebastián is a beautiful city located in the Basque region of Spain. The city is also a popular destination for tourists who want to experience the culture and see the sights. There are many things to do in San Sebastián, but here are some of the best .
One can visit the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, enjoy tasty pintxos from one of the many bars on offer, tour around El Mercado de la Pescadería (fish market), or spend an afternoon at Plaza del Ayuntamiento (town hall square). All these activities make it easy to appreciate this historic destination.
Visitors will be able to experience tradition and culture by immersing themselves in all that San Sebastián has to offer. In addition to food and drink, there are plenty of beautiful attractions for those looking to learn more about this incredible city.
Explore Txakoli wine country from Bilbao

San Sebastián is a beautiful Basque city located in the north of Spain. The city is known for its art, architecture, and tradition. I had the opportunity to tour the city and explore Txakoli wine country from Bilbao. The experience was incredible and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique cultural experience.
There are many ways to see the city so be sure to plan your trip accordingly. Don’t forget that if you are visiting during Easter, Semana Santa or summer (June-August) festivals will most likely be going on in town as well. These events are not something you want to miss out on if you happen to be around when they happen so be sure to plan ahead! Be sure to also try some popular dishes like seafood paella or seafood risotto. You won’t regret spending time in this amazing city!
See incredible Basque architecture

As you tour the city of San Sebastián, you will be able to see some incredible Basque architecture. The Basque people have a rich culture and history, and this is reflected in their architecture. You will see beautiful buildings, sculptures, and even public art throughout the city.
Make sure to take plenty of pictures to remember your trip! Don’t forget about Domaica: One of the most well-known places for coffee or lunch is Domaica. They offer outdoor seating as well as indoor seating where you can sit down with friends or family and enjoy a tasty meal from one of their delicious menus. Get lost in the market: It’s worth it to wander through the Mercado de la Bretxa and explore all the different food stalls!
Visit Guernica, Basque Country’s most famous painting

If you’re a fan of art, then a tour of San Sebastián would not be complete without a visit to Guernica. Basque Country’s most famous painting, Guernica is a mural-sized oil painting on canvas by Spanish artist Pablo Picasso.
The painting was completed in 1937 and is now on display at the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, Spain. Guernica depicts the tragedies of war and violence through symbolism – meaning it has different meanings for different people. To some, it is an anti-war message that calls for peace; to others, it signifies the suffering of humanity or a statement about fascism.
No matter your interpretation, visiting this masterpiece should be one of your top priorities during your time in San Sebastián. Guernica is huge and requires multiple visits to really take in all its intricate details.
Walk around Urgull’s marina district

As you walk around Urgull’s marina district, you’ll be mesmerized by the views of the city and the ocean. Be sure to take some time to walk along the pier and take in the fresh sea air. You’ll also want to explore the many shops and restaurants in the area.
And of course, don’t forget to snap some photos to remember your trip! The Guggenheim Museum is a must-see: Known for its curvy and modern design, this museum was one of Frank Gehry’s first projects. Stop by to see works from Picasso, Monet, Warhol, and more.
If you’re up for it, consider a little more walking and climb up Mount Igueldo for even better views! Make sure to bring an extra set of clothes and sturdy shoes though because the hike is quite strenuous.
Hike through Monte Igueldo Mountain

If you’re looking for breathtaking views, look no further than Monte Igueldo Mountain. The hike up is moderate and takes about an hour, but it’s well worth it when you reach the top.
Visit Plaza de la Constitución: Plaza de la Constitución has been home to the Casa Consistorial (city hall) since 1618. It’s also where citizens gathered during El Pueblo Libre in 1894, which ultimately led to Spain ceding control of its colonies back to their respective countries. It’s a great place to watch the sunset or grab some tapas after a long day exploring the city.
La Concha Beach is one of my favorite places in San Sebastián. Not only does it have great waves for surfing, but there are plenty of cafes and restaurants right next door if you get hungry or thirsty. Just don’t forget your bathing suit! The surf culture in San Sebastián doesn’t end at La Concha Beach though- there are tons of other beaches nearby that offer something different, like family-friendly beaches or secluded white sand beaches. Spend the morning at Playa Santa María del Mar near Las Arenas neighborhood and take a dip in the ocean before heading over to Playa Kostaldea near Urumea River for more wave action.
Go kayaking in La Concha Bay

If you’re looking for a breathtaking kayaking experience, look no further than La Concha Bay in San Sebastián. Surrounded by mountains and with crystal-clear water, it’s easy to see why this is one of the most popular kayaking spots in Spain.
Once on land, head over to Monte Igueldo, which is also known as the balcony of Europe. Located at the tip of Mount Igeldo, this overlook offers stunning views that are worth the steep hike up. The small city might not be much when compared to Madrid or Barcelona but its beauty can’t be denied. To really get an understanding of the old part of town, start your journey from Plaza de la Constitución and head south until you reach Pasaje de la Union.
You’ll be surrounded by quaint shops and local restaurants; stop for some traditional pintxos (basically appetizers) at any of them. When all else fails, take a long walk along Playa de Gros, located right near the bay.
