If that’s not within your budget, there are plenty of hotels around $20-$30 USD per night which offer clean rooms and basic amenities. These places usually have communal bathrooms which may be slightly distasteful for some people.

Things to see while traveling by train

While traveling by train is a more affordable way to go than flying, it does lack in that adventurous feeling that traveling by plane gives. In Vietnam, traveling by train is a luxury. You can spend time on your laptop, listening to music and reading a book while passing through lush green landscapes. If it’s your first time in Vietnam, we recommend taking a train because of its scenic routes and affordable price for budget travelers. Here are some must-see destinations that you won’t want to miss on your Vietnamese adventure.

You have quite a few sightseeing opportunities and things to do along your journey. While on any train ride I highly recommend checking out what sights are nearby. On one of my trips from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City I noticed we were close enough (and had enough time) for me to get off at a small town called Halong Bay. We would have been just minutes away from seeing those famous limestone karsts and a long boat tour of its bays and islands.

The best part about exploring Vietnam is that almost all of its cities and provinces are filled with stunning natural beauty: so make sure not to miss out on these lesser-known destinations while visiting Southeast Asia’s second largest country.

How much does it cost to travel around this country?

If your idea of a good time is sitting on a beach, ordering in drinks and eating good food, traveling through Vietnam could be expensive. However, if you’re looking for an adventerous trip with plenty of outdoor activities that are cheaper than neighboring countries such as Thailand and Cambodia. But how much does it cost? When compared to other Southeast Asian destinations like Singapore or Hong Kong, Vietnam can feel cheap.

To get a rough idea of costs, all you have to do is multiply your daily spending per diem by 7 or 10. That will give you an approximation of how much money it might cost for your whole trip. Of course, not everyone spends $10/day on food and accommodations—but it’s a good place to start. If that seems like too much for your taste (or budget), there are always options for accommodation in hostels and homestays, which can bring costs down significantly.
