The volcanic trail from Oia to Fira is one of the most popular hiking trails on Santorini. There’s also a path that descends gently towards the coast which leads to some lovely views over Oia Bay. Be sure to take your camera with you as there are plenty of photo opportunities waiting! You can even hire a donkey ride to carry you back up the hill if you get tired during your hike. . As someone who hates walking, I was relieved to find out that there was a gentler route down too.

My favorite part of the whole hike were all the blue flowers blooming around me. They looked like they were sending their love and healing energy to anyone passing by. Remains of Oia Castle

Situated on the northwestern edge of the island of Santorini, Greece, Oia is a small village with a big reputation. The village is best known for its stunning views of the Aegean Sea and its whitewashed buildings that seem to cling to the cliffs. But Oia is more than just a pretty face. The village is also home to the remains of an ancient castle, which was built in the 13th century.

Today, visitors can explore the ruins of the castle and learn about its history. One legend tells of how Saint Irene threw herself from one of the towers after she was denied marriage by her father, who wanted her to marry a nobleman. She survived the fall but became blind and went on to serve as a nun at her father’s church. Other legends say that Irene could miraculously cure blindness by touching people’s eyes with sprigs from an olive tree near the tower where she fell.
