Skardu – exploring the beauty of Pakistan’s northernmost region
As the northernmost region of Pakistan, Skardu is one of the most beautiful and untouched locations in the country. It’s often called the gateway to the Karakoram mountains, where some of the highest peaks on Earth can be found, including K2 (the second highest mountain in the world) and Nanga Parbat (the ninth highest). These mountains make up part of the Himalayas, which also include Mount Everest – making Skardu one of the most breathtaking destinations in Pakistan, indeed in all of Asia.
Fairy Meadows

One of the most scenic places in Skardu is Fairy Meadows. It gets its name from the legends surrounding it – that fairies used to come here to dance. It’s a beautiful spot, surrounded by peaks like Nanga Parbat. There are many things to do here, from hiking and camping to simply taking in the natural beauty. For those who don’t want to explore on their own, trips can be organized with local tour operators.
There are also some historical sites around this area worth visiting. The Thandiani Tombs for example has been named one of the ten must-see sites in Pakistan by National Geographic Traveller magazine. The site holds six tombs built during the rule of Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1605 AD. Archeologists believe these tombs were constructed as a retreat for travelling emperors.
Shigar Valley

The Shigar Valley is one of the most scenic places in Skardu. With its towering mountains and pristine lakes, it’s no wonder why. There are plenty of things to do in the valley, from hiking and camping to fishing and boating. And of course, you can’t forget about the natural beauty. From the snow-capped peaks to the lush green forests, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
As soon as I reached Shigar Valley, I knew this was a place I could never get tired of exploring. It doesn’t matter if you’re visiting during summer or winter; this place has something special to offer every time of year. Whether you want to hike up the mountains, go on a jeep safari around the hills, or just sit by one of the many lakes in order to relax, there’s an activity for everyone. And if all that wasn’t enough,
you can visit some other parts of Skardu when you’re done with your adventures! You may be thinking Wow, what a beautiful blog post! but don’t take my word for it. Visit Skardu and see everything I’m talking about firsthand.
K2 Base Camp

From the base camp, you can see some of the world’s tallest mountains, including K2, Broad Peak, and Gasherbrum. Skardu is a great place to hike, climb, and explore. The scenery is breathtaking and the people are friendly. I would highly recommend visiting Skardu if you have the chance. It is just one of those places that you have to visit at least once in your life. There are many opportunities for hiking, climbing, rafting, paragliding and much more. Fort Abbas, Hunza Valley and an Adventure Ride Back to Gilgit

Pakistan is a land of breathtaking natural beauty, and its northernmost region, Skardu, is no exception. From the mighty peaks of the Karakoram range to the pristine lakes of Sadpara and Upper Kachura, Skardu offers plenty of opportunities for exploration and adventure.
At the base of Thums Up Peak (7,500m), you can find one of the world’s most enchanting places – Shigar Valley. Home to three beautiful valleys (Shigar, Rupal and Panmah) and the famous Baltoro Glacier which divides them into two halves, it has been described as the most beautiful place on earth by many mountaineers over the years.
There are many reasons why I would recommend visiting Skardu in Pakistan, but my favourite activity was an adventurous ride back to Gilgit along with our armed guard escorts from Fort Abbas, Hunza Valley and an Adventure Ride Back to Gilgit: Pakistan is a land of breathtaking natural beauty, and its northernmost region, Skardu, is no exception.
Chilas Lake

One of the most beautiful places in Skardu is Chilas Lake. The water is crystal clear and the views are simply breathtaking. Visitors can go for a swim, relax on the beach, or even go fishing.
It’s a great place to unwind, spend time with friends and family, or do some fly-fishing. Fishing is allowed from 8am to 4pm every day except Fridays and Sundays when it is closed completely. The best time to visit the lake would be in September when the mountain air has cooled down and you can enjoy activities like kayaking which isn’t possible during summer months due to high temperatures.
You will find this spot packed with locals who have come here for picnics, strolls and fishing. Be sure to bring enough cash as there aren’t any ATMs close by. Keep your belongings secure and stay alert of pickpockets.
Karimabad, Hunza Valley And The Journey Home

Pakistan is a land of great diversity, and that is certainly true when it comes to its geography. From the towering mountains of the north to the endless beaches of the south, there is something for everyone in this beautiful country. And one of my favorite places to explore is Skardu, located in the northernmost region of Pakistan. It is remote, yet so stunningly beautiful.
The day begins with an early morning flight from Islamabad up to Skardu (roughly 45 minutes) and before you know it you are surrounded by jagged peaks, spectacular landscapes, friendly locals who greet you with a warm smile at every turn and deep blue skies which stretch endlessly into the horizon.
There is nothing like waking up in the morning to see snow capped mountains as far as your eyes can see- they take your breath away. In Skardu I recommend taking a stroll through Karimabad, Hunza Valley and The Journey Home (a museum telling the story of those who traveled along this ancient trade route).
